Renways Take Their First Powerscreen Screening Plant
- a Chieftain 2100 Triple Deck
Renways (Aggregates) Limited is a privately owned, independent company which owns and operates a 50 acres limestone quarry at Creeton, Little Bytham, near Grantham, Lincolnshire. From here, Renways produces a range of limestone products, from soft oolithic material which is rendered to dust suitable for agricultural use, right up to clean hard “blue” stone, which is quarried, crushed and screened to produce specifically sized aggregates for Renways varied and demanding marketplace. These top quality limestone products are marketed throughout eastern England and around 250,000 tonnes per year is Renways target from their newly purchased quarry. For screening and stockpiling, Renways has invested in their very first Powerscreen dry screener, a mobile Chieftain 2100 Triple Deck model, which is hard at work on site and currently processing in the region of 360 tonnes per hour on average.
Renways (Aggregates) Limited recently changed their core business concentration from contract screening and crushing to quarry operation. Having specifically purchased a new crushing plant for a major contract, Renways was mortified to find that, on completion of the contract, payment failed to materialise! In a stroke of entrepreneurial inspiration, the management decided that, as they had a brand new crusher suitable for quarrying applications, the sensible thing would be to distance themselves a little from contract crushing and simply buy a quarry of their own. After all, why not, when you have the plant but nowhere to use it! The culmination of this was that they bid for and won the ownership of Creeton Quarry and, realising the considerable potential for both volume and quality, decided to work the stone and acquire additional processing machinery as required. Using backhoes to dig “benches” at the face and their newly purchased crusher to render the raw material to size, Renways decided to call in Powerscreen International’s appointed distributor Powerscreen Midlands to advise on a suitable screening plant. The recommended machine for this type of application was the best-selling Powerscreen Chieftain 2100 Triple-Deck. After due consideration and detailed machine comparisons, Renways placed their order. This mobile and highly powerful dry screening plant is now a lynchpin of Renways’ production process and is moved along the quarry face as the excavators progress through each stratum, receiving the dug and crushed stone direct and with minimal rehandling.

The Chieftain 2100 Triple Deck is capable of an output of up to 500 tonnes per hour (depending on mesh sizes and material types) and features a 20X5 (6m X 1.55m) triple deck screen unit for optimum efficiency in screening quarried materials. The Chieftain 2100 Triple Deck has heavy-duty, low ground pressure crawler tracks and is both agile and manoeuvrable around the site. The design and construction provides maximum access for easy maintenance and serviceability, whilst operational efficiency and mobility make the Chieftain 2100 Triple Deck a truly versatile screening unit for large-scale applications such as Creeton Quarry. This new machine is designed and built for high volume processing of aggregates, coal, crushed stone and demolition debris and is easily handling the different densities of limestone extracted at the quarry. A main advantage of this plant is that 1.6m has been added to the side conveyors, allowing for higher stockpiles and the Chieftain 2100 Triple Deck can produce up to six end products for Renways if required.
Renways Aggregates Mr Steve Johnson reports that he is extremely impressed with his Powerscreen plant and is equally well satisfied with the service and attention he has received from Powerscreen International and their distributor, Powerscreen Midlands.
